Kettering, OH (June 5, 2025) |
Day Air Credit Union recently partnered with Northridge High School to host Mad City Money Financial Reality Day, marking the first time the interactive budgeting simulation was brought to the Northridge student body.
More than 240 students participated in the hands-on experience, which gives students a taste of real-world financial decision-making. Each student was assigned a career, income, and family scenario before navigating a series of stations where they made spending and saving choices related to housing, transportation, childcare, food, entertainment, and more.
The simulation is designed to help students develop critical money management skills, from understanding debt and savings to balancing needs versus wants. It also supports Ohio’s financial literacy graduation requirement, which began with the Class of 2026.
Volunteers from Day Air and Northridge guided students through the event, offering real-time feedback and helping them reflect on the financial impact of their choices.
“It was incredible to see how engaged the students were,” said Ashley Runk, Community Development Specialist at Day Air Credit Union. “They were asking thoughtful questions, weighing their options, and really considering how their choices affect their financial future. That’s what this program is all about, giving them the confidence to manage money in the real world.”
Day Air Credit Union is committed to empowering youth through financial education and continues to expand its efforts across the Miami Valley.
