Virginia Beach, VA (June 5, 2025) |

Virginia Business has selected Brian Schools, president & CEO of Chartway Credit Union, as an inaugural Virginia C-Suite Awards recipient.

The Virginia C-Suite Awards celebrate top corporate executives who consistently demonstrate remarkable leadership skills, integrity, values, vision, commitment to excellence, company performance and community engagement. The honorees must have their primary work office in Virginia and hold a top corporate executive position (such as CEO, COO, CFO, etc.) or equivalent job (executive director, owner, etc.)

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized among so many accomplished leaders across the Commonwealth,” said Brian Schools, president & CEO of Chartway Credit Union. “This award is a reflection of the talented team I have the privilege of working with every day and the meaningful impact we’re able to make together for our members, communities, and team members so they can thrive.”

"Virginia Business congratulates this year’s honorees. Our 2025 C-Suite Awards winners are outstanding leaders who demonstrate impressive resumes and lead their companies to success, making a positive impact on the lives of others,” said Richard Foster, associate publisher of Virginia Business. “They are trendsetters who empower those who work with them in a professional setting and in the community. They are example to all, and their leadership is growing the next generation.”

As a leader with more than 30 years of executive experience, Schools is known for championing people-first values, fostering innovation, and driving community impact. He has served as Chartway’s president & CEO since 2015 and currently sits on the boards of America’s Credit Unions, the Chartway Promise Foundation, and Chartway Ventures. Under his leadership, Chartway has earned national recognition for excellence in service, workplace culture, and social responsibility. It is also the first credit union headquartered in Virginia to receive the prestigious Juntos Avanzamos designation for empowering Hispanic and immigrant communities.

In addition to receiving the 2025 Virginia C-Suite Award, Schools was recognized as one of Virginia Business Magazine’s “100 People to Meet in 2025,” as an “Impact Maker” for his role as transition board chair for the recently formed America’s Credit Unions. He was also named to the Inside Business 2025 Power List: 75 Power Players—for a second consecutive year.
